rescue, tv's dr. oz. >> i don't know how the cab lost control, but this woman was devastated. >> a breathless dr. oz speaks moments after responding to a real life emergency in new york city outside his tv studio. it was total mayhem as a runaway cab jumped a curb and plowed into a crowd of people near rockefeller center tuesday severing the foot of a young british tourist. here is les trent. >> within moments of the disaster which happened here, good samaritans including dr. oz rushed to the woman's aide and helped put the life saving tourniquet on her leg. >> we were trying to tighten it up. >> max was on the scene. >> this guy comes, he asks questions, oh, it's dr. oz. he started asking her vital questions, are you allergic to anything, enough doctors do. >> the tourist who lost her

foot and suffered a mangled right leg is described as a woman in her 20's on her first trip to neyork city. a hot dog vendor put the severed foot in a bucket of ice and the woman was rushed to the hospital. this was the second time in less than a week that dr. oz has come to the rescue. he just finished running a 5- kilometer race in salt lake city last saturday when one of his fellow finishers collapsed and stopped breathing. dr. oz, wearing a red cape like superman, administered oxygen, and intravenous fluids on the scene. the runner appeared to suffer from heat stroke and dr. oz later checked on him at the hospital. now this latest heroic deed by the popular tv doctor. across the country there was a highway nightmare as a car burst into flames, luckily the driver was pulled to safety, but the good samaritan

had no idea he was saving a comedy legend, because the man behind the wheel was dick van dyke. jim moret has the details. >> it's a terrifying scene on a los angeles freeway, as a luxury jaguar burst into flames, and none other than legendary actor dick van dyke was behind the wheel. van dyke was pulled from a car by passing motorists moments before it became a fireball. >> i noticed a guy slumped over and saw flames, i pulled over. >> one of the guys who saved van dyke caught it on camera and posted it on youtube with his narration. >> myself and another guy or two came to the car, pulled him out, put him on the side, i came back to the car and then realized it was mr. dick van dyke. >> another rescuer was jason pennington who pulled him from the smoldering car. >> i grabbed him and you pulled him out.
